Progressive View: It Time to Tell Them to Put Up or Shut Up

Reactionary Conservative Republican politicians often do and say things that are untrue or hypocritical. It would seem that doing these things would get them into trouble, both with their own constituents and with the public at large. After all, lies are immoral, and hypocrisy makes you look bad and is damaging to your credibility.

Unless you are a Reactionary Conservative Politician, that is. They do not suffer any of these things. Why? Because no one holds them responsible for what they say or do. Nor do they have to take the consequences of their lies and hypocrisy.

It is time for Democrats to stop this. It is time to always confront the Reactionary Conservative Republican politicians with the lies they tell or the hypocrisy they practice. It is time tell them bluntly, bear the consequences for what you do/say or just shut up. No escape, no equivocation, no walking it back. And no forgetting on our part.

Here are two examples of how this would work, and some suggestions on how to make the Reactionary Conservatives pay up when they refuse to either put up or shut up.

-Tell Conservatives to put up or shut about trashing the idea that people should get vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Reactionary Conservative hypocrisy and lies about the Covid-19 vaccine are dangerous and stupid. However, it is also currently the most fashionable way for an aspiring Reactionary Conservative to prove that he or she is “conservatively” correct, except to claim that Trump won the 2020 election and that the treason of January 6, 2021 was a “peaceful” demonstration.

Originally Reactionary Republicans liked the idea of Covid-19 vaccination shots. That was back in the day when Donald Trump was still president and bragging about how he single handedly developed the vaccine that would save America. Republicans slobbered automatically and appropriately.

Then he lost the presidency. Then information came to light that Trump had no real plan for how to distribute the vaccine, then there were the revelations of incompetence and confusion, then leaks about how Trump bungled the entire coronavirus fight.

Then Biden took over and made science a priority again. Then he organized the distribution of the vaccine, pushed for it to be offered to everyone and set an ambitious goal to get America vaccinated. And now the number of people who have been infected or died has dropped tremendously due to the vaccination. In fact, it is now clear that they only people getting infected and dying are those who are not vaccinated.

Because Biden’s quick, well organized, and successful vaccination program has radically reduced the spread and deaths from Covid-19, the issue of vaccination is a losing one for Reactionary Republicans. As a result, conservatives have gone from supporting the Covid-19 vaccine, to being vaccine hesitant to being violently and stupidly opposed to anyone getting a vaccination shot. If the Reactionary Republicans can not profit from an issue, they must do everything possible to destroy, tarnish or ridicule it so it can not profit the Democrats.

Reactionary Republicans now believe vaccination shots are not about life saving measures that will defeat the Coronavirus. Instead they claim the shots are all about infringement of our civil liberties, and slippery ways in which a tyrannical government can shut down our struggling businesses, and provide a mechanism for the Biden administration to take away our guns.

Find that hard to believe? Well, all you have to do is listen to what Reactionary Conservatives say to themselves when they are gathered together to talk, share ideas, and congratulate themselves.

Lauren Boebert, a congressional representative from Colorado, was one of the featured speakers at the recent 2021 Republican Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC).

Boebert could have addressed any number of pressing problems: rising inflation, climate change, the still raging opioid epidemic. But instead she chose to give the audience a standard conservative screed about oppressive government. She strutted back and forth, demanding the government stop hurting Americans by giving them benefits. And she bravely warned the government, “Don’t come knocking on my door with your Fauci Ouchie, you leave us the hell alone”.

You go girl!

Boebert went on to accuse the government of trying to keep Republicans from gathering together, and keeping them isolated. She then finished up with some real conservative defiance by later tweeting this about Biden’s idea of going door to door to reach people with a life saving inoculations, “Biden has dispatched his needle Nazis to Mesa County. The people in my district are smart enough to make their own decisions about the experimental vaccine and don’t need coercion by federal agents. Did I wake up in wake up in Communist China?”

So there you have it. At CPAC she demeans a proven life saving vaccination shot, which has already brought the Coronavirus under control where enough people have received it, by referring to it as the “Fauci Ouchi” (why don’t they leave that poor guy alone). She then follows up with a screech about how making the efforts to offer the shots door to door to anyone who wants it, is somehow both Nazism and Chinese Communism.

Madison Cawthorn, a congressman from North Carolina, decided to really slam the idea of making an effort to give people a vaccination that can save thousands of lives. Speaking at the same CPAC he explained his horror and alarm at the door to door vaccination idea.

https://www.businessinsider.com/madison-cawthorn-vaccines-effort-could-lead-to-taking-guns-bibles-2021-7

“Think about the mechanisms that they would have to build to actually execute that massive of a thing.” “And think of what those mechanisms could be used for. They could go door to door to take your guns. They could go door to door and take your bibles”.

Right, Madison, the government just pretends to want to give us vaccinations. What they really want to do is take our guns and bibles. Yeah, that fear is a really good reason for not getting vaccinated against the greatest public health scourge in the last hundred years.

The Coronavirus vaccinations, and their success, are a political liability for Reactionary Conservatives. However, the vaccination issue is a winner for them if they can make people think that the government is going to force them on people, and use the distribution of them as an excuse and mechanism to carry out Nazi-like oppression. And of course, they would present themselves, the proud, courageous God-fearing Republicans, as the only ones standing up against the monstrous government Nazis (that is, Joe Biden and the Democrats). In short, they can’t win by getting people vaccinated - they can only win by people not getting vaccinated.

Enough of this lying, idiotic crap: it’s time to make them put up or shut up.

To start, we must put an end to the hypocrisy of the Repbulicans: we must publicly demand that each and every Reactionary Republican put up or shut up about their own vaccination history. If they hate vaccinations so much they must publicly say whether or not the themselves have been vaccinated. Because if they have, they are lying hypocrites who should be exposed as such.

Many prominent Reactionary Conservatives won’t put up or shut up about their own vaccinations. Tucker Carlson is one such hypocrite.

https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/19/opinions/tucker-carlson-vaccine-opinion-reiner/index.html

https://www.cnn.com/2021/05/19/opinions/tucker-carlson-vaccine-opinion-reiner/index.html

Currently Tucker Carlson is the most popular propogandist on Fox (Fake and Phony) News. And he is the most immoral and dangerous propogandist against Covid-19 vaccination shots, often spreading outright lies about large number of people dying from the vaccinations.

He is also completely unwilling to tell people honestly whether or not he has gotten vaccinated. When pressed he becomes slippery and weaselly and makes sure that no matter how often you ask him, he never answers the question. I am sure that he would never answer such a simple, direct and important question about whether any of his family members have gotten vaccinated.

Carlson is hardly alone in this stinking duplicity. Donald Trump got the vaccination shot - in private, and without telling anyone. And, family member Melania, too, got a private, secret vaccination shot. No publicity about it for her lest someone catch on that Donald himself got a shot.

Even though Fox (Fake and Phony) News is probably the biggest of all the disseminators of vaccination lies, Rupert Murdoch, the founder and owner of Fox (Fake and Phony) News, got a vaccination shot last December. Of course he did it in private. And he did it just a day before his Tucker Carlson took an opportunity to raise suspicion about the vaccination on his prime time show.

It time to make the Reactionary Conservatives, especially the political leaders among them, put up or shut up.

Democrats should always challenge any Republican to tell the American people honestly and candidly whether or not they have received one or more of the Covid-19 vaccination shots.

“Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Green, Madison Cawthorn, Rand Paul, Mike Pence, Kevin McCarthy, put up or shut up! Have you had even one Covid-19 vaccination shot?! And what about your family members? Has any of them gotten a vaccination shot yet? If they have you are damn hypocrites and don’t deserve to be believe about anything.” So just shut the hell up!!

Reactionary Conservatives need to be reminded that that nobody trusts a hypocrite. And don’t tell us that it’s you private affairs and I have no right to be told anything about your medical history.

Wrong! This is not solely your private personal medical business. This is a public health issue of the greatest magnitude. There are lots of people who need to know if you are unvaccinated and thus a potential threat to them. Don’t forget (if you were paying attention at all) you can have Covid-19, be asymptomatic, and infect someone else very easily. And since you don’t believe in wearing a mask or doing any social distancing, you are an especially big threat. So if you have had the vaccine you obviously believe it is justified - so come clear about what you have done and shut up about how bad vaccination shots are.

For those of you who have not, or will not get a vaccination shot it is time to put up or shut up about taking responsibility and accepting the consequences of your actions.

https://www.quotemaster.org/Consequences+Of+Our+Actions#&gid=1&pid=4

https://www.quotemaster.org/Consequences+Of+Our+Actions#&gid=1&pid=4

You are free to refuse vaccination. But if you don’t get vaccinated, and then get the disease, you must therefore bear all of the costs of being sick and paying for treatment.

In other words, forget the insurance company or the government covering the cost of treating you for your illness. No private health insurance reimbursement, no state Medicaid payment, no Medicare and no Social Security disability payments for you. It’s all on your credit card.

Since there is no real question that they Covid-19 vaccinations work, then your refusal to take the shot is based either on the idea that the shot is somehow more dangerous than the disease, or that taking it poses too great a risk of Nazism or Communism developing in America.

Ok, so put up or shut up.

In the real world people who do stupid things, and get hurt or sick, have to pay the consequences.

Do you smoke? If so you know you will have to pay more for health insurance. Too bad! Do you enjoy dangerous, unregulated sports activities? If so, then you have to take the consequences by paying more for private insurance or perhaps even losing your coverage if you have a bad accident. That’s just how it is. Do you go mountain climbing in areas where the park rangers have warned you it is dangerous? If they have to come to the rescue then you will get a big bill for their emergency services. Yep, bet on it. It’s ok to drink and it’s ok to drive. But if drive drunk, and get a few DUI convictions, expect to either lose your license and/or get a massive increase in your insurance premiums. Life in the big city! Put up or shut up!

All of the above examples are of people doing stupid things that are not strictly illegal. But not strictly illegal does not, and should not save you from personally taking the consequences of your actions. Vaccination shots are purely voluntary. But you should have to take the financial consequences of your actions in the same way.

How about really stepping up in the put up or shut up challenge? How about this, Reactionary Conservatives: You don’t have to get the Covid-19 vaccination shots. But you should register with you local city office or nearest public hospital. Go on the record with written, signed and notarized document that states the following: “I do not believe in the Covid-19 vaccination shot. I have been informed as to the safety and efficacy of the vaccination shot by responsible, recognized experts. However, because of my personal doubts about the safety of the vaccine and/or my political beliefs, if I become sick with the coronavirus I am willing to pay any and all costs associated with the treatment of my illness. This includes any reimbursement from private health insurance companies, Medicaid payments from my state, and any federal Medicare or Social Security Disability payments. As a demonstration and proof of my sincere beliefs I will bear all cost myself.

How about going up one more rung on the ladder of put up or shut?

Since it is very likely that an unvaccinated Reactionary Conservative could knowingly, or unknowingly, could infect and/or kill another person, they should take complete responsibility not just for the harm they do to themselves, but that done to others.

How about another statement of responsibility? How about one that states that if a refuses the Covid-19 vaccination shot, and infect another person, the you will personally pay all the bills for the innocent victim! Even better, if the other person dies, the conservative will submit to appropriate legal punishment up to and including imprisonment.

Now that’s real put up or shut!

Reactionary Conservatives are always snarling and complaining that they can not be made to take the vaccination shot. Like an especially immature 13 year old we have to hear them whine, “it’s my decision, it’s my body.” Unspoken but clearly understood is the next sentence, “You can’t make me get a shot, you’re not the boss of me, I can do anything that I like - because it my body, my decision. I can do whatever I want!!”

It’s not just your body and it’s not just your decision. If you get sick then you cause society to bear a large medical cost. And, too many of you will suck off the government for those costs (which will cause government programs expenses to rise and result in tax increases). Or those decisions will cause an increase in someone else’s insurance premiums because of your expensive treatment. It is not all about you.

If a Reactionary Conservative, especially one who is a politician, is not willing to put up or shut up and personally take the full consequences of their words or actions, then they are not being honest and responsible. Make them shut up!

-Tell conservatives to put up or shut up about making claims about voter fraud, or other things.

Just like other progressive Democrats I am sick and tired of Reactionary Conservatives making claims and not backing them up, which they do all the time. Here’s a prime opportunity for Democrats to practice the put up or shut up doctrine.

Let’s take Donald Trump. Virtually all conservatives make claims but provide no evidence to support them. This is especially true about voter fraud in the 2020 election. Trump, of course, is the worst about this and certainly a good example of how to make Reactionary Conservatives put up or shut up.

Let’s take a recent incident to make the point:

Shortly after the last CPAC gathering Donald Trump had an interview with Trump fan girl and obliging conservative hack, Maria Bartiromo. In the interview Bartiromo referred Trump to an article by the Federalist Society that claimed there were enough illegal votes cast to tip the election away from Trump. She then kindly asked him about his thoughts concerning what is going on in Georgia and Arizona.

Trump eagerly explained that the articled stated that as many 35,000 votes might have illegally been cast, and that tens of thousands of votes had been cast in the wrong county. Trump then went on to promote the heavily criticized “audit” in Arizona and noting that Republicans were pushing for similar processes in other states.

Typical of Trump, typical of Bartiromo, typical of Reactionary Republicans. All claims, all allegations, little or no evidence, and nothing that ever officially establishes truth or certainty about possible voter fraud.

The Reactionary Republicans depend upon claims of voter fraud and voting irregularities to cast enough doubt on the 2020 election to give them cover to pass vicious laws in conservatives states. These laws, of course, are written to intimidate, suppress and nullify votes by Democrats and others. All to make sure that a minority of conservatives will have complete electoral and legislative control of the country.

Democrats must confront Republicans, especially Trump, every time they make an unfounded claim, especially about voter fraud. They must demand that they bring the evidence of fraud (or whatever) forward, present it to some qualified governing body, and get an official decision. At the very least they must call out the Republicans publicly for saying things that they can’t, and won’t, back up.

In the above example some Democrat, or one of the few independent representative in congress, should immediately take to the airwaves (and every other media source) and point out that the Federalist Society is a completely biased source with no experience or expertise to determine voter fraud. They should also point out that the governing body in Georgia, the Secretary of state, has audited the results of the Georgia vote three times - and found no read fraud or even irregularities. Arizona has yet to find any real voter fraud or theft.

If Reactionary Conservatives continue with the scam of claiming some group (like the Federalist Society) has a “study” or “review” that established voter fraud, or even voting irregularities, then challenge them to put up or shut up. Demand they bring forth the evidence and take it to their Secretary of State of their state. Remind them that the Secretary of State is an elected official that has the support of a majority of voters in that state and therefor deserves to be believed over any Federalist Society or Cyber Ninja election audit done by a private company and paid for with conservative money.

Like other Progressives I am sick and tired of this stupid tactic of Reactionaries going public with the unfounded claims. They take to conservative airwaves with the complaints about voting “irregularities” in this state, or “mismatched ballots” in another state, or how voting machines somewhere, somehow, showed mysterious signs of “manipulation” or “breakdown”.

After you have called out the Reactionaries on their biased sources, demand that they put up or shut up! Tell them directly, to their faces, in public, “If you have evidence of real fraud that could change the results of the election then bring it to a court and lay it! If not, just shut up!” I am sick and tired of your “concerns about the voting” or your “needs for transparency” or “there are reports of irregularities” or some other snivel that you can use to cast doubt on a free and fair election.

Don’t feel you have to explain or debate the Reactionary Conservatives. It is a waste of time, especially about things like election fraud or vaccination shots. Just make them put up or shut up.

Vote sanity, vote knowledge, vote Progressive. Vote for the Democrats. Vote for Democrats no matter how hard the Reactionary Republicans make it!
